2 A Spatiotemporal Model of the Retinal Processing 2

This paper presents an original approach to visual motion analysis. We propose an analog model of the vertebrate retina which performs a regularisation of the retinal image and we show, from a signal processing viewpoint, that a high-pass temporal lter and a spatial directional ltering, after this retinal processing, can act naturally as a matched lter, insensitive to spatiotemporal noise, to detect motion in an images sequence composed of translational moving objects. The motion detection and the directional selectivity are achieved for local and global motion.
